Многозначному русскому еще соответствуют в английском языке another 2., more, else, still, yet, относящиеся к разным ситуациям и употребляющиеся в разных типах предложений:а) еще в значении кроме того, что уже было, в добавление к тому, что уже упомянуто соответствует английскому наречию else. Else образует сочетания с неопределенными и вопросительными местоимениями и наречиями little, much, somebody, anybody, someone, anyone, something, anything, nothing:There is nothing else to see — Тут смотреть больше нечего;
somebody else — кто-нибудь еще (другой);
something else — что-нибудь еще;
everything else — все остальное;
everybody else — все остальные;
where (when, why, who, what) else — где (когда, почему, кто, что) еще.
Little else is known about this event — Мало что еще известно об этом событии;
б) еще и синонимичное ему сочетание все еще в значении продолжения того же действия или пребывания в том же состоянии соответствует английскому still:He is still at work — Он все еще на работе.
He is still sleeping — Он все еще спит;
в) еще в отрицательных предложениях, обозначающих пока не свершившееся действие, соответствует английскому yet:He hasn't come yet — Он еще не пришел.
He is not ready yet — Он еще не готов;
г) еще в значении такой же (самый) соответствует английским another и more. Another 2. обозначает еще один такой же объект или то же самое, полностью определенное количество чего-либо, понимаемого как целое:another cup of tea — еще одна чашка чая,
another twenty minutes — еще двадцать минут.
More употребляется с неисчисляемыми существительными или с исчисляемыми существительными во множественном числе:more time — больше времени,
more sugar — больше сахара;
Do you want (any) more time? — Вам нужно еще время?
В сочетании с исчисляемыми существительными количество называемых предметов не ограничено:I want two (three, five) more books — Мне нужны еще две (три, пять) книги (книг).
(2). Сочетание or else синонимично otherwise — а не то, в противном случае:Let's hurry, or else/otherwise we'll miss the train — Давай поспешим, а не то мы опоздаем на поезд.
